The Cathedral Room

Our artist and writer friends tell us this room is the one that inspires the most creativity, and it’s little wonder. You can almost feel presence of the ages in this cozy burrow. Located in the oldest section of the house, the Cathedral Room features exposed, rustic stone walls and a plaster cathedral ceiling supported by exposed, two-century-old red oak barn beams. The queen bed nestles beneath a rescued headboard on the original pumpkin pine floor, which carries the deep, rich burnish of centuries of footfalls.
Its burgundy-and-white tiled bath features a glass-enclosed steam shower and the best view in the house. Overlooking stately silver maples, a pin oak, several of our flower beds, and the 250+ year-old Pennsylvania bank barn, it may find you spending more time than you’d ever thought you’d want to in a bathroom. On a nice day, you may even catch the ultimate pastoral scene when our sheep, Ben and Jerry, come out to graze in their run.
Any time of day is beautiful in this unique room with its high windows and stained glass light, but we think you’ll especially enjoy sundown in the embroidered rocker opposite the open loft.
